Methods for Preserving Land

The most important ingredient for preserving the unique qualities of the Vista area is Community Support. Because the Vista Conservancy is a non-profit, tax exempt organization, there are several ways in which citizens can participate in the preservation efforts.

Gifts: As a tax exempt organization, the Vista Conservancy can accept all forms of gifts and the donor may obtain a tax deduction representing the value of the gift donated. Donations include, but are not limited to cash, stocks, bonds, securities, life insurance proceeds, bequests and devises. Land may also be donated to the Vista Conservancy for permanent protection and maintenance if the land meets the criteria for land acquisition.

The Importance of Land Preservation

The rural beauty and native wildlife of the Vista area is being threatened by the elimination of open spaces as a result of population growth. The net effect of high density development not only has an impact on the immediate surroundings, but on remote areas as well. These impacts are long term and must be mitigated at their inception, in order to have effective preservation.

Private land conservation is extremely cost effective, but it is not free. The educational research, documentation, appraising, legal work and stewardship necessary to permanently protect land take both time and money. Grants and support of our members is equally important to help achieve conservation goals. The spirit and energy of our members, volunteers, is what will chart the course of our future preservation success.

Community participation is not only a measure of our success, but an essential ingredient for long term conservation.
